Dawn Thorne: Profile

Although originally trained in pharmacy, Dawn has a lifelong passion with design and fabrics which prompted a successful interior and soft furnishing business.  This interest in textiles led her to gain City & Guilds Certificate and Diploma in Stitched Textiles and then the newly validated Buckingham and Chilterns University College H/E Diploma in Stitched Textiles at Windsor College, taught by Jan Beaney and Jean Littlejohn.  During this time Dawn also gained City & Guilds Teaching part 1 & 2.  Dawn has gone on to do printmaking and a B.A. Silversmithing module at Bucks. University.

Dawn currently holds the position of Course co-ordinator and tutor for City & Guilds Certificate and Diploma at East Berkshire College, Windsor.

Dawn has many interests but her background in interiors, a passion for fabrics, love of architecture, in particular steel and glass structures feature strongly in her work.

Although primarily textile in construction, Dawn also draws upon the use of photography and plastics to convey a sense of depth, with the addition of light source further hidden imagery are brought into the composition.

These influences together with an inherent desire to create large scale structures are woven together to produce architectural pieces.
